About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and customer‑focused Rent Support Assistant to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting Rent Support Officers with the recovery of current and former rent arrears, ensuring debts are managed effectively and sensitively. You’ll work with a wide range of customers, including those who may be vulnerable, helping them understand their responsibilities while offering guidance and support to improve their financial wellbeing.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assisting Rent Support Officers in the recovery of current and former arrears, ensuring all actions follow agreed policies and procedures.
  • Using customer data, risk management principles and sound judgement to maximise income collection while minimising costs.
  • Communicating effectively with customers to encourage sustainable rent payments and reduce personal debt.
  • Working closely with internal colleagues, the DWP, Jobcentre Plus, Housing Benefit teams and voluntary agencies to support customers through benefit applications and discretionary schemes.
  • Managing the recovery of former tenant arrears and current garage arrears, monitoring cases and intervening at the right time to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Identifying vulnerable customers and ensuring they receive appropriate support or referrals to specialist services.

What We’re Looking For

  • A confident communicator who can build trust and rapport with customers from all backgrounds.
  • Someone with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • A problem‑solver who can interpret data, assess risk and make informed decisions.
  • A team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
  • Experience in income recovery, customer service, housing, or welfare benefits is desirable, but not essential if you bring the right attitude and willingness to learn.
